The electric machine operates at 48V DC and its power consumption is approximately ten times lower than that of the hydraulic machine, whilst still achieving higher maximum travel speeds.
The main features of the hydraulic machine have been retained:
- • automatic alignment with the vine canopy, with distance control from the bunches
- • High-resolution controllable defoliation intensity
- • Reversal of roller rotation to eject debris
A group of companies from the tractor implement sector and CNH, thanks to the coordination of DISAFA at the University of Turin, have worked together on the Marcel project to simultaneously develop this technology amongst both implement and tractor manufacturers
The development of this equipment continued in subsequent seasons in collaboration with tractor manufacturers such as NEW HOLLAND and LANDINI, who made available engine-integrated power generation systems, thereby facilitating the use of these machines.
In particular, the project to integrate machine control with the tractor’s artificial intelligence enabled the NEW HOLLAND – NOBILI – TECNOVICT working group to triumph in the EIMA 2026 Technical Innovations Award.
